Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple is on the Krishna riverbank. This Temple is famously known as “Sri Durga Maleshwara Swamy,” where goddess Durga is worshipped along with Lord Shiva.
As per the Hindu tradition, Goddesses take their position on the left of their consorts. This is the only place where the goddess Durga is on the right side of Lord Shiva.

Once there lived a Yaksha named “Keela.” This Keela performed penance for goddess Durga, and she appeared before him. The goddess asks him to make a wish.
Then he asks, “he wants a goddess to live in his heart forever.” The goddess grants him the boon. As the god, Indrudu worships goddess Durga on this hill. So the mountain is called Indrakeeladri, where Indra –Keela-aadhri.
Indra Keeladri combines three words: the god who worships goddess Durga, The yaksha, and The hill.
